The owner of a local sports franchise has requested eight hundred million dollars in public money to build a new stadium, which he plans to name after a cryptocurrency that did not exist last year and may not exist next year.
The owner, who is personally worth several stadiums, explained that he could not be expected to pay for the stadium himself, as that money is busy being his. He assured taxpayers that the project would create jobs, primarily the job of asking taxpayers for money.
The naming rights deal guarantees that the stadium will be renamed at least three times before opening day, each time after a company that will later be the subject of an investigation.
