Tiny Nation Discovers Oil, Immediately Surrounded by Concerned Friends

Several new friends arrived by aircraft carrier.

A small island nation that announced the discovery of significant oil reserves on Monday reported by Tuesday that it had acquired numerous new and deeply concerned international friends, several of whom arrived by aircraft carrier.

The nation, previously of interest to no one, is now described in foreign capitals as a vital strategic partner, a beacon of freedom, and a place whose stability the world simply cannot risk, particularly the part of it with the oil.

Officials expressed gratitude for the sudden global affection, while quietly noting that the friendships are expected to last precisely as long as the reserves, after which the nation anticipates a return to being forgotten.
