Congress Passes Rare Bipartisan Bill to Name a Post Office After Itself

The facility will feature a plaque listing every member who took credit for it.

In a show of unity not seen in the current session, the House voted 431 to 0 to rename a suburban post office the United States Congress Memorial Postal Facility, honoring the legislative body's decades of service to the legislative body.

Sen. Dutch Ravelle called the measure a reminder of what the chamber can accomplish when there is nothing at stake. Rep. Tandy Crispin, who chaired the Subcommittee on Naming Things, said the facility would feature a plaque listing every member who took credit for it.

Asked whether the post office would receive funding to actually deliver mail, leadership said that was a separate and far more divisive question, and one best left to a future committee.
