In a rare moment of unity, lawmakers announced Thursday the formation of a bipartisan working group tasked with studying whether to convene a committee that would, in time, explore the possibility of eventually doing something.
Sen. Dutch Ravelle praised the measure as a bold first step toward a second step. Rep. Tandy Crispin said the group would meet quarterly, issue a report, and then disband to honor the report.
The plan does not address the underlying issue, name the issue, or acknowledge the issue exists. Leadership called that the work of a future committee, funding for which will be debated by a committee.
